The fame of the “Mediterranean Diet” is
no passing fad - it has been around for a long time. Ever
since Roman times, there has been a rich culture of food
and wine in Andalucía, based around the three pillars
of cereals, wine and olives. All three – and much
more besides – you will find as essential ingredients
in our Food & Wine activities in and around Granada.
Our Tapas Tour of some of the city’s
best-loved bars will introduce you not just to the food
of the region but also to the social life of this bustling
city. If, like many, you are growing to appreciate the
great range of wines that Spain produces then you will
enjoy the Wine Stroll, led by an engaging young Spanish wine expert. Finally, for a creative role, apply
for the Spanish Cookery Class: a trip to
the beautiful Lecrín Valley and an entertaining
morning in the kitchen learning recipes for some great
tapas dishes from a long-time English resident cook and afficionada of
village life!
Tapas Tour & Delicatessen Tasting
One of the simple
pleasures of Spanish life is an evening spent tapeando - going from bar to bar, trying the small dishes of food which accompany each drink, and immersing yourself in the social whirl. Your local resident guide will take you to some
of Granada's most characteristic bars, giving you an introduction to this essential feature of Spanish culture, and adding suggestions of where else to
explore during your stay in this intriguing city. The tour includes,
on weekdays only, an exclusive tasting of regional products
in a colourful delicatessen, where you will be able
to sample high quality olive oils, local wines, cheeses, cold meats
and patés.
Wine Stroll and Wine School
Best known for
internationally renowned brands from regions such as La
Rioja and Jerez, Spain’s wines are steadily acquiring
a deserved following for their rich depth and diversity.
Gain a fascinating insight into the world of Spanish wines
in the company of a local expert who will take you to a
selection of the bars in Granada which best showcase this
wide and varied offering. The evening’s stroll will
take in four distinctive, characterful bars in the city
centre, in each of which you will sample a different wine. You might also be interested in our private "Wine School" classes, where you will be guided through a tasting of various signature Spanish wines in the premises of a local wine merchants.
Spanish Cookery Class
In the village house of an English
resident of the Lecrín Valley, an area of orange
groves and almond trees some 45 minutes’ drive
from Granada, you will be taken step-by-step through
several recipes typical of Andalucía which use
the freshest of local, seasonal ingredients. The morning’s
class is at a relaxed pace, with the emphasis on having
fun, swapping stories and so on, and is rounded off with a
leisurely lunch on the kitchen terrace overlooking the orchards and allotments
of the village as you enjoy the fruits of your labours.
