All writers, especially travel writers, are moved to write by beautiful destinations. This is why we choose to host our Travel Writing courses in Spain in the Alpujarra, a range of hills and valleys some 90 minutes' drive from Granada. Verdant meadows full of spring flowers, woods of chestnut and oak, and flower-decked village houses characterize this quiet corner of southern Spain. Daniel Scott, travel journalist of fifteen years and five continents experience, sees in the mountain scenery of the Alpujarra the perfect location for his Introduction to Travel Writing course. Designed to give participants a real working knowledge of the travel writing industry, the course has been running in locations as far afield as Sydney, southern France and London for the past five years. In that time, Daniel has set many students on their way as travel writers. Comments of past students and a review of the course by The Guardian are on our Travel Writing Extra page.
Introduction to Travel Writing course, in the Alpujarra, Spain
The course, held over the middle four days of the programme, looks at the fundamentals of narrative development, story structure, and crisp, compelling writing, so that you can turn your travels into articles and your articles into money and with it the opportunity to travel for free. Although reasonably intensive, the course is above all enjoyable and stimulating, with a small group of no more than eight providing a mutually supportive environment. Daniel will also give personal feedback on students' work for up to six months afterwards, so providing an expert view on your progress from the course. You can see the course outline here.

Optional activities on the Wednesday, the Free Day, include a Guided Walk & Picnic in the mountain scenery or a half-day Digital Photography "safari" with resident professional photographer, David Aspinall. Indeed, since the course also looks at travel photography, dealing with what makes a great shot and how to get it, the "safari" is an ideal option for those who wish to pay particular attention to this part of the travel journalist's craft.
